For years, Vinicius Junior was considered as a player who just was not good enough to be a regular starter for Real Madrid. His dribbling was always exceptional but the Brazilian did not seem to have any sort of end product to his game. As a result, he failed to hit double-digits in terms of goals scored in his first three seasons with Los Blancos.

All that would change in the 2021/22 campaign though, as Vinicius transformed into one of the best players in the world and played a huge part in Real Madrid winning the Champions League, even scoring the winning goal in the final against Liverpool.

He scored more goals last season alone than the first three combined but it just was not about finding the back of the net either. His ability to set up his teammates also grew tremendously. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Vinicius scored 22 goals and provided 20 assists in 52 appearances. And he has made a brilliant start to this campaign as well.

Vinicius does not seem to be resting on his laurels either and appears to have his eye on winning another Champions League. The Brazilian seems to be taking inspiration from someone like Karim Benzema. As reported by Marca, he said:

"“Of course I want to score more goals and provide more assists, but my goal is to keep winning with the team.“I’m 22 years old and I know I have to keep developing. The club is giving me everything so that I can continue to grow.“I think I have to improve on everything. I want to keep evolving until the last day of my life. I play with Karim [Benzema], who is evolving every day and is 34 years old.”"

Vinicius reveals exciting targets as Real Madrid embark on Champions League campaign vs Celtic

Vinicius has started this season in fantastic fashion and now, he will surely be hoping to make an impact in the Champions League as well.

Real Madrid will face Scottish giants, Celtic, in their first game of the UEFA Champions League campaign and will surely be keen on making a winning start. At the same time though, it will not be an easy task.

Celtic are a good attacking side, who are coming off of a 4-0 win over last season’s Europa League finalists and their Glasgow rivals, Rangers, this weekend. On the other hand, Parkhead probably has the best atmosphere in all of Europe. Thus, all things combined, this could prove to be a tricky test for Real Madrid.
