Real Madrid: Carlo Ancelotti delivers Eder Militao injury update
Karim Benzema’s injury against Celtic grabbed most of the headlines. The Frenchman was forced off the pitch around the half-hour mark and headed straight for the tunnel. Thus, fears where that he might have suffered a serious issue, which would have been a major problem for Real Madrid, as they do not have a genuine back up striker for him.
Thankfully, it has since emerged that it is not a serious injury. Benzema might end up missing the next couple of games, against Mallorca and RB Leipzig, but he is expected to be back soon enough.
Another Real Madrid player who was substituted off against Celtic though was Eder Militao. He had started at centre-back but did not come out after the break, and was replaced by Antonio Rudiger instead. Thus, there were concerns that he might have picked up an injury as well.
It does not look like it was any serious issue for Militao either and it seems to have been a precautionary change in order to avoid injury. As reported by Real Madrid’s official website, Carlo Ancelotti said after the game regarding the Brazilian:
"“He had a muscle overload in his hamstring and I preferred to avoid taking any risks, despite the fact that he was keen to carry on and also because Rüdiger is very reliable.”"
Real Madrid: Ancelotti delivers update on Militao who was subbed off vs Celtic
Militao has established himself as a starter under the management of Ancelotti and thus, it is important that he remains fit.
In case of centre-back though, Real Madrid have a lot better depth than up front. We saw Rudiger come in seamlessly and Los Blancos took control of the game.
Celtic had actually had the upper hand in the first half, had had the better chances to score and even struck the post. But Real Madrid turned the game around in the second half, scored three goals and walked out with a 3-0 victory, proving once again why they are the champions of Europe.
