Real Madrid: Tests reveal how long Karim Benzema will be out due to injury
Real Madrid won their first Champions League match of the season against Celtic FC, but the celebration was cut short when Los Blancos’ star, Karim Benzema, suffered an unclear injury that forced him to leave the game in the first half.
In a squad already lacking in offensive alternatives, having your key striker sidelined due to injury is the last thing you want to see. Eden Hazard amazingly produced maybe his greatest game for Real Madrid in over three years in his absence against Celtic; nonetheless, the player’s longevity is still a problem, and he cannot be relied on as a replacement for Benzema if the Frenchman is absent for an extended period of time.
After the game, Benzema underwent testing at Valdebebas, Real Madrid’s training centre, where results about the specifics of his injury and the length of time he will be sidelined were determined.
Karim Benzema is a major doubt for Real Madrid’s forthcoming games due to a knee injury
According to Diario AS, the tests performed on Benzema a few hours ago in Valdebebas confirmed that the striker has bursitis in his right knee. Real Madrid will face Mallorca and RB Leipzig in the following days, and tests on Benzema indicate that the player is a major doubt for both games.
It is estimated that the Frenchman will need 7 to 10 days to recover from bursitis and reclaim the captain’s armband. The scans show that the injury to his knee is minor, and he will most likely be able to recuperate and participate in the derby against Atletico Madrid on September 18th, which is in roughly 11 days.
It remains to be seen whether Benzema will be able to perform to standards in such a crucial and heated game so soon after returning from an injury, and what influence his absence will have on the squad in the next two matches.
