In what is the last thing that Real Madrid fans want to see this season, Karim Benzema was forced off the pitch with an injury in the first 30 minutes of the Champions League opener against Celtic. The game was tied at 0-0 at that point, with surprisingly, the Scottish giants the better side. Los Blancos would take control in the second half and win 3-0.

The biggest worry that Real Madrid fans would have had coming out of the game though was the injury status of Benzema. The Frenchman is a very important part of this team and there is no real back up for him up top at the moment.

Thus, while Real Madrid might have been good enough to put three past Celtic on the night, it is questionable that they will be able to continue performing at a high level if Benzema is out for any questionable length of time.

There is some very good news surrounding Benzema though as it looks like that it is not a serious injury, even though the extent of it is not clear yet. As reported by Marca, Carlo Ancelotti said regarding the matter:

"“Yes, it doesn’t seem worrisome, but we have to wait for tomorrow’s tests. The first scan doesn’t seem like anything very serious, but we have to wait until tomorrow. It’s still not known if it’s muscular. It’s not clear. That’s why we have to wait for tomorrow.”"

Real Madrid: Ancelotti gives great update on Benzema’s injury

It is great news that Benzema does not seem to have suffered a major problem and we can only hope that he is on the pitch as soon as possible once again.

The Frenchman had not made the brightest start to the season in the first place and had appeared to have been struggling a bit. Now, it remains to be seen if he is back stronger when he does complete his return from what looks to have been a minor injury picked up against Celtic.

It remains to be seen how many games he will end up missing if any. Real Madrid take on Mallorca this weekend, then have RB Leipzig in midweek and a game against Atletico Madrid after that.
