4. Marco Reus

This name simply does not get enough attention. Marco Reus is the one footballer who no troll can find any cause to despise. The player came from humble beginnings and has retained his qualities as a professional football player despite the notoriety.

Apart from being a fantastic person, Reus is one of the sport’s one-in-a-million players. He has witnessed generations rise and fall at Dortmund, the club to which he has been most committed for over ten years, and has served as a silent catalyst in giving the best for his teammates.

It goes without saying that Reus is an extraordinarily talented player who can showboat with the ball whenever he wants while also making the most difficult of tasks appear so simple that his brilliance is often overlooked. The German is a master at cutting through defenses and can be just as dangerous on defense as he is on offense.

It was rarely noticeable that the midfielder couldn’t adjust to any attacking player; in fact, he only managed to bring out the best in them. Robert Lewandowki, Jadon Sancho, and Erling Haaland are just a few of the players who have had some of their best individual seasons as a result of Reus’ influence.

Several rumours surfaced in 2015 linked Marco Reus to Real Madrid, claiming that the transfer was already done and confirmed, but something prevented the move from being completed.

It would have been a treat to see Reus link up with his national teammate Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, and the three would have undoubtedly formed one of the strongest attacking midfield units at the time.

A player of Reus’ calibre and talent deserved to play at the world’s largest football club alongside the top players in order to achieve the honors his talent merited. Unfortunately, but unavoidably, injuries and setbacks had the better of Reus’ career, and the legacy he could have had at Los Blancos was erased before it could be written.
