Real Madrid are a top team without a shadow of a doubt. They are the defending Champions League and La Liga holders for a reason. At the same time though, one cannot overlook the fact that Los Blancos have a few worries at the moment as well. The biggest of them is the lack of depth in certain areas of their squad.

Karim Benzema is a great example. The Frenchman is the hot favourite to win the Ballon d’Or and arguably the best striker in the world at this point of time. But Real Madrid do not have any real back up for him in their squad at the moment.

It goes without saying that that is not ideal. Benzema suffered an injury recently, against Celtic, and that has left Real Madrid scrambling for options. The most likely route is that Eden Hazard will be played as a false nine.

It looks like Los Blancos are aware of their depth issues as well. And as reported by 90min, Real Madrid fear they could head into the second half of the season with a depleted squad, and so they are considering a move for RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku in January.

Arsenal were ready to make huge transfer bid for Real Madrid target

As reported by Independent, back in June, Arsenal and PSG would be willing to go upto £100 million transfer fee for Nkunku.

As we all know, Arsenal or PSG did not end up making the move for Nkunku and he ended up staying at RB Leipzig instead.

There, he has enjoyed a bright start to the season, despite the fact that RB Leipzig have struggled as a team till now.

There is very little doubt about the fact that Nkunku is one of the best players in the Bundesliga right now and could be a magnificent signing for Real Madrid. But it feels unlikely that they would make a mega move in January unless absolutely necessary.
