Real Madrid saw Barcelona go top of the La Liga table with their 4-0 win over Cadiz. And although the Blaugrana have played a game more, one has to admit that Xavi’s side are starting to look dangerous and are genuine title contenders this season, after adding so many big names to their squad over the summer transfer window.

The biggest worry for Real Madrid at the moment though, is the fitness status of Karim Benzema. The captain was forced off the pitch in the Champions League opener against Celtic.

It is still unclear how long he will be out of action for with reports suggesting that it could be anything between a week and a month. Thus, the only thing that Real Madrid fans can do is wait and hope for the best.

Judging by Carlo Ancelotti’s recent comments though, it looks like there is still a chance that Benzema could end up featuring against Atletico Madrid. As reported by Real Madrid’s official website, the Italian manager said:

"“We won’t rush Benzema back. He won’t play on Wednesday and then we’ll see if we can get him back for the derby. If he doesn’t play then, I don’t think he’ll join up with France.”"

Real Madrid: Ancelotti provides the latest update on Benzema’s injury status

It is safe to say that Benzema is the star man for Real Madrid at this point of time and without him, and no real cover at striker either, Los Blancos could end up struggling going forward.

Eden Hazard was deployed as a false nine against Celtic when Benzema was substituted off around the half hour mark and it looks like Ancelotti could look to repeat the trick in the upcoming game against Mallorca as well.

On the other hand, with Benzema out, all eyes will be on Vinicius Jr to provide the attacking threat. The Brazilian has been exceptional since the start of the season but it will be interesting to see if he can carry the goalscoring burden of a team like Real Madrid.
