Real Madrid have had a terrible time dealing with injuries this week. Karim Benzema and Eder Militao both got injured in the Champions League opener vs Celtic, and are now in a race against time to get fit for the derby against Atletico Madrid. Otherwise, Carlo Ancelotti will be without two of his first-team regulars in one of the most important games of the campaign.

That is not the end of their worries though. Unfortunately, Real Madrid picked up another injury, this time in the game against Mallorca.

Lucas Vazquez was the one injured this time around and he had to be substituted off, for Dani Carvajal, at around the 70th minute mark.

As reported by Marca, Vazquez could not continue due to pain in his left leg. For more details on this, the specific injury and the period of absence, medical examinations will be carried out on both Monday and Tuesday. But it feels very unlikely that he would be available in midweek to face RB Leipzig.

It is safe to say that the situation is not looking ideal for Real Madrid, especially when you consider their lack of depth in several areas of the pitch.

While Vazquez might not be a regular starter, his versatility makes him very useful to Ancelotti, as he can be deployed in multiple positions.

If he is out for any considerable length of time then Ancelotti might have to bring Alvaro Odriozola, who has not played a single minute this season and is believed to have his own fitness worries, back into the fold.

It remains to be seen how things turn out for Vazquez. Real Madrid have a couple of important games coming up.

In midweek, they will be taking on a resurgent RB Leipzig side, who got a 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund, following the appointment of new manager Marco Rose. Then next weekend, they have a big game vs Atletico Madrid.
