One man who is becoming more and more important for Real Madrid every week is Federico Valverde. The Uruguayan has played both on the right wing and in midfield this season and shined in both positions. This also goes on to show how much Carlo Ancelotti trusts the 24-year-old and he is repaying that trust with his performances on the pitch.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 2 goals and provided 2 assists in 7 appearances this season. Thus, he has already outdone his numbers from the previous campaign.

The goal against Mallorca was one to remember as well, as he carried the ball up the pitch and went past multiple opposition defenders before firing the ball into the back of the net, in what is surely one of the goals of the season.

Unsurprisingly, Ancelotti seems to have been impressed with what he has seen from Valverde and might have earmarked him as a future leader of this team. As reported by Real Madrid’s official website, the Italian manager said:

"“One is a leader when he sets an example and Federico is very important for us. He’s doing very well and is still very humble. This can help you to become a terrific leader in the future. There are a lot of people who can be leaders by example and not by their words. That’s very important.”"

Ancelotti believes Valverde can be a future Real Madrid leader

There is no doubt that Valverde has established himself as one of the most important players in this Real Madrid team.

Even at right wing, which is not a natural position for him, he has put in some excellent performances. The club might no longer need to use him there though as it looks like Rodrygo has found his form and is poised to have a breakout season.

That means that Valverde will be playing most of his football in midfield moving forward. There is a lot of competition there though, with the likes of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni and Dani Ceballos, all impressing in recent times.

Valverde has made an excellent start to the season. Now, let’s see how the rest of his campaign goes.
