Most Real Madrid fans had believed that Kylian Mbappe joining the club this summer was a mere formality. The Frenchman had never made a secret of his love for Los Blancos or Cristiano Ronaldo, and his deal with Paris Saint-Germain was set to run out. So, everybody had put two and two together in their minds.
Unfortunately for Real Madrid, there was an unexpected twist in the equation. Mbappe would surprisingly end up extending his contract with PSG by three more years and remained at the French capital to continue playing with Lionel Messi and Neymar.
Thus, ended Real Madrid’s hopes of signing arguably the best player in the world on a free transfer. But did they for good or just for the time being?
As reported by L’Equipe (via Daily Record), the contract is only for two years. And further mystery has been added as they state only Mbappe himself can activate the final year to remain at the Parc Des Princes. Thus, the French World Cup winner could be in line for a fresh transfer drama with Real Madrid.
Fresh Mbappe to Real Madrid transfer claim made
It will be very interesting to see what the future holds for Mbappe. Just the short nature of the contract seems to suggest that he might not be entirely convinced by the PSG project and has kept his options open as a result.
Thus, it is very possible that Real Madrid could get another opportunity to sign him much sooner than anybody could have expected.
At the same time though, one has to question whether Real Madrid really need Mbappe anymore. Vinicius Junior is playing just as good football at this point of time and perhaps a more traditional striker would be a better option to chase for Los Blancos rather than going for a similar sort of player.
