Both Real Madrid and Liverpool had relatively quiet summer transfer windows. When it comes to key players, Los Blancos signed Aurelien Tchouameni and Antonio Rudiger, and both of them are looking like brilliant signings for the club. On the other hand, The Reds brought in Darwin Nunez and completed a late loan move for Arthur, when it looked like they were desperate to sign a midfielder.
Arthur was not the only midfielder that they might have had their eyes on though. Rumours broke out recently that Liverpool had made a blockbuster £80 million bid for Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde, which was turned down.
Valverde is a key player for Real Madrid and fans would want him to stay for the foreseeable future. And fortunately, there does not seem to be a lot to the rumour of the £80 million transfer bid from Liverpool.
As reported by 90min, they have been told by sources from both clubs that this was simply not the case, though there is no denial that Liverpool are long-term fans of the 24-year-old.
Liverpool and Real Madrid both play down rumour of blockbuster bid
Valverde has been able to establish himself as one of the most important players in Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
The Italian manager has relied on the Uruguayan to even start on the wing on several occasions, and he has done a great job in that role too.
Valverde looks like someone who can be a regular part of the Real Madrid first-team for the next decade or so, and the club should hold onto him for as long as they can.
At the same time though, Premier League interest in Valverde could be a worry for Real Madrid. It was just this summer that we saw Casemiro leave for Manchester United, and Los Blancos cannot afford to see another key part of their midfield head for England.
