Real Madrid continued their perfect start to the season with a 2-0 win over RB Leipzig, thanks to late goals from Federico Valverde and Marco Asensio. This means that Los Blancos have won all of their eight games in this campaign till now – the Super Cup, five La Liga games and both Champions League matches as well.

That’s an incredible start when you consider that they have already had a few injury problems and do not have a very deep squad to combat that.

Real Madrid could be set to face their biggest test of the season though when they travel to Metropolitano to take on Atletico Madrid this Sunday.

Now, Atletico Madrid have not had the greatest start to the season. They currently sit at 7th in the La Liga table and are coming off of a 2-0 defeat in midweek against a Bayer Leverkusen side that is in the Bundesliga relegation zone right now. And when they take on Real Madrid, they might very well be without five of their star players.

Five Atletico Madrid stars might not play vs Real Madrid

As tweeted out by Pedro Fullana, Atletico Madrid trained without Jan Oblak, Stefan Savic, Jose Gimenez, Thomas Lemar or Sergio Reguilon.

Reguilon has been ruled out for the derby while Lemar is also practically ruled out, while the situation of the other three will depend on how things evolve for them in the coming days.

It must also be pointed out that none of these five players took part in the midweek game against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.

Of course, Real Madrid have their own worries going into the game as well. The likes of Karim Benzema and Lucas Vazquez are expected to miss out against Atletico Madrid, unless they surprisingly end up recovering over the coming days.
