Real Madrid: Manchester United legend surprised by Casemiro

Casemiro stunned the footballing world by leaving Real Madrid for Manchester United in the summer in a transfer deal believed to be around £70 million including add-ons. On the surface of it, the move did not make much sense for the Brazilian midfielder, as the Red Devils are playing Europa League football and have not been in a Premier League title race for pretty much a decade now.

But at the same time though, rumours suggested that the move to Manchester United was going to almost double Casemiro’s salary. Also, he had achieved everything that there was to achieve at Real Madrid and perhaps needed a change in scenery.

He has not yet broken into the starting XI for Manchester United though as Erik ten Hag continues to find the perfect role for the Real Madrid legend.

But it looks like he has already managed to surprise Paul Scholes with some aspects of his game, which had not shined through during Casemiro’s time at Real Madrid. As reported by the Daily Star, the Manchester United legend said in the BT Sport studio:

"“He surprised me a little bit with his forward passing, his range of passing, I thought he was more of a winner, getting the ball back in midfield.“It was Kroos and Modric last year, he has more to his game and showed more of a range to his game.“That’s his first game for sometime, I think he will eventually, with his quality he’s got, work his way into the team.”"

To Real Madrid fans, Casemiro’s quality on the ball will not be a massive surprise. He has always had that in his game.

It might not have shined through because he was playing with two of the greatest passers of all-time in the form of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. Instead, Casemiro got known as the ball winner and enforcer in the middle of the park for Real Madrid.

But he has that ability himself and it is great to see that he is finally getting the chance to express it to its fullest in a Manchester United shirt. Hopefully, he will be able to nail down a spot in the starting XI soon enough.
