Atletico Madrid superstar will return vs Real Madrid

Real Madrid are perfect this season till now, having won all of their games in La Liga and the Champions League, as well as the Super Cup, despite going through injury problems and squad depth issues. But that will be put up to the test this Sunday as they travel to Metropolitano to take on rivals Atletico Madrid in the first derby of the season.

Atletico Madrid’s start to the season has not been nearly as good as that of Real Madrid. At the moment, they sit at 7th in the La Liga table and lost 2-0 in midweek in the Champions League against a Bayer Leverkusen side that was in the Bundesliga relegation zone at that point of time.

But when the two sides meet in the Madrid Derby, form is expected to go out of the window, and it could very well be a close contest.

And Atletico Madrid have been handed a major boost heading into the game as Diego Simeone has confirmed that Jan Oblak will be in goal for them against Real Madrid. As reported by Mundo Deportivo, the manager said in his press conference:

"“He’s going to be in the goal tomorrow.”"

Oblak was not in the squad in Atletico Madrid’s recent games against Celta Vigo and Bayer Leverkusen but is set to make his return against Real Madrid.

That is a massive boost for Simeone’s side as Oblak has been one of their most important players for years, even though he might not have managed to match his standards in the 2021/22 campaign.

On the other hand, for Real Madrid, Eder Militao seems to have recovered and is expected to be available for selection. Unfortunately though, it appears that Karim Benzema will have to sit this one out and will only be back in action after the international break.
