When it comes to tennis, Real Madrid are often associated with Rafa Nadal, one of the club’s most famous fans. In the eyes of many though, the greatest ever to pick up a racquet is the Swiss maestro and the Spaniard’s long-time on court rival, Roger Federer, who recently announced that he will be hanging up his boots after the upcoming Laver Cup.

It is safe to say that it was a sad day for tennis fans around the world, as one of the most legendary careers in sport history is set to come to an end.

Federer is considered by most as one of the most elegant and stylish players in the history of tennis, and his greatness cannot only be measured in wins and losses, because he brought so much more to the game and was the face of it for so long. His retirement will also bring an end to his legendary rivalry with Nadal, with the two having contested several Grand Slam finals through the course of their careers.

Their might be one last chapter yet to be written in that story though. As reported by Marca, Real Madrid is planning an exhibition match between Federer and Nadal at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid are planning one last Federer vs Nadal hurrah

It is safe to say that if a Federer vs Nadal exhibition takes place in front of 80,000 fans at the Santiago Bernabeu, it has the chance to break a lot of records.

It remains to be seen if it ends up happening or not, but it certainly is an exciting idea to think about.

We would also like to wish Federer a happy retirement and wish he has all the success off the tennis court that he did for more than two decades on it.
