Real Madrid are looking to defend their Spanish league title and have made a brilliant start to that defence, winning all six of their La Liga games till now and sit at the top of the table, two points ahead of a resurgent Barcelona side. On the other hand, another team looking to defend their league this season are AC Milan but the same cannot be said about their title defence till now.
AC Milan currently sit at fifth in the Serie A table, three points behind league leaders Napoli and Atalanta.
The Italian giants were linked with a move for Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio in the summer but did not end up making it. And now, it looks like their plans have not changed for January either.
As reported by CalcioMercato, AC Milan continues to keep contacts alive for Marco Asensio and with Hakim Ziyech. They seem to be interested in signing the Spaniard on a free transfer when his current deal runs out with Real Madrid at the end of this season.
AC Milan want to sign the Real Madrid ace on a free transfer next summer
It is safe to say that it feels very unlikely that Asensio would even consider extending his current deal with Real Madrid if the situation does not end up changing drastically.
At this point of time, the best role that he can hope for in this team is that of an impact substitute and he might not be happy to continue to play that, with Rodrygo also coming into his own in recent times.
With both Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo looking like Real Madrid’s wingers of the future, it might be time for Asensio to move on.
The January transfer window could very well be Real Madrid’s last chance to get a transfer fee out of his departure, but Asensio would have more options if he left next summer as a free agent.
