This weekend, Real Madrid faced their local rivals and triumphed despite a slew of controversies involving the atmosphere on and off the field prior to and during the game. This match had a lot more on the line, and Los Blancos did not disappoint.

The team’s winning run was extended, while Carlo Ancelotti’s personal score versus Atletico Madrid was improved. While the players are away on international duty and won’t be returning to the Bernabeu until October, Real Madrid is generally optimistic about facing the next challenges in Europe and at home.

Here are 3 burning questions that must be addressed as Real Madrid prepares to face a challenging few months following their triumph against Atletico Madrid.

1. Will any action be taken against the racists at Civitas Metropolitano?

Yes, the stadium’s name has supposedly been changed from Wanda to Civitas.

Sunday’s derby was as intense as it might have been for a variety of reasons. The game followed right after the entire controversy surrounding Atletico captain Koke’s comments and Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr made sure to try their hands out at having some “trouble”.

Atletico Madrid fans were totally angry, which would be natural given the decades-long rivalry, but the hatred was only directed at a select individuals, specifically two Real Madrid players.

When Thibaut Courtois and Vinicius Jr touched the ball, the Rojiblancos couldn’t stop whistling and replicated racial noises directed at the latter. Even before the game, chants of the same nature could be heard outside the stadium, and certain fans proudly held disparaging puppets meant for Vinicius.

This is not, however, a new phenomenon in LaLiga. Numerous other black players have faced similar scenarios for years, and while authorities have taken some action, the problem has simply become worse and more accepted.

According to Marca, LaLiga will submit the event to the Anti-Violence Commission and will condemn the horrific acts of discrimination committed by Atletico Madrid fans. However, it remains to be seen if action will be taken, which should be noted will only be of an economic nature on the club and not in any other way, or whether it will be brushed off as it has been done in the past.
