Real Madrid might not have been very active in recent transfer windows but most of the moves that the club have made have worked out. As a result, they have been able to remain one of the biggest clubs in the world and are the current European champions, despite having a net spend that is lower than some mid-table Premier League clubs over the past decade or so.

That just goes on to show how well Real Madrid is run and how good their scouting system is. And one of their latest wins on the transfer market seems to be the decision to sign Aurelien Tchouameni from AS Monaco.

Yes, if all add-ons are met then the entire package is believed to be around €100 million, which is a significant amount to spend on any player. But with the way that Tchouameni has started the season, it looks like he was worth every last penny that Real Madrid shelled out to sign him.

It appears that Real Madrid have found a player who can be a regular in the middle of the park for them for the next decade. Interestingly, he could have easily ended up somewhere else last summer.

As reported by The Telegraph (via football.london), Chelsea never formally submitted an offer to Monaco for Tchouameni last summer because senior figures at Stamford Bridge weren’t convinced the Frenchman could make an instant impact within Thomas Tuchel’s side. So they focused on another target as that summer’s transfer window reached its conclusion: Saul Niguez.

A year on and it is pretty clear that that was a big mistake on the part of Chelsea. Tchouameni has established himself as a regular starter for Real Madrid from the get go and replaced a legend like Casemiro seamlessly.

On the other hand, Chelsea are going through a midfield problem at the moment, with N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic struggling with constant injury problems, while many of the others do not seem up to the mark.
