Real Madrid: 3 players who deserve more playing time in 2022-23
1. Dani Ceballos
Dani Ceballos‘ fate at Real Madrid has been on and off, primarily off until last season, when he remarkably inverted the situation and emerged from the label of flop when the Spaniard opted to avoid another loan and finally show himself at the Bernabeu, which he duly did.
Despite being criticised and repeatedly questioned about his ability, as well as the club’s conjecture about his future, Ceballos worked with perseverance and character to become a fan favourite, for which he should be praised.
It is safe to say that there is no other player on the bench who deserves more playing time than Ceballos, and justifiably so. His progress in the second part of last season helped him rehabilitate his image and he needs these minutes to retain it.
Still, his minutes this season have been limited, albeit for valid reason. The midfield is simply brimming with talent. There are five other players vying for three slots, not including Castilla talents like Sergio Arribas, but Ceballos’ skill set is unique and unlikely to be matched by the roster.
His progressive passing technique and vision for the ball, as well as his ability to manage the tempo of the game, are reminiscent of Toni Kroos. Even with a fresh addition in midfield, finding a way to include Ceballos in the team is essential. He simply requires the minutes, and he is the one who is most deserving of them.
