Real Madrid have not had Karim Benzema available for a while now. The Frenchman picked up an injury in the Champions League opener against Celtic and had to be forced off the pitch after 30 minutes, and has not kicked a ball since then. Los Blancos have been handed a boost though regarding his recovery.
It is an open secret that Real Madrid do not have the best depth at striker, with Mariano Diaz looking completely out of first-team plans at the moment. As a result, the fans’ worst fear came true when Benzema got injured against Celtic.
Thus, the likes of Eden Hazard and Rodrygo have operated in the false nine role to fill the void of Benzema. But now, there seems to be some positive news surrounding the Frenchman.
As reported by AS, these two weeks without club football have been used as a mini pre-season for Benzema. No risks have been taken till now and he will increase the volume from next week.
Real Madrid have been handed Benzema injury boost as international break nears end
It goes without saying that this is a boost for Real Madrid as it looks like Benzema is finally nearing fitness and could be back in contention after the international break.
In fact, Real Madrid could have actually taken the risk and fielded him against Atletico Madrid in the derby but the sensible decision was taken and he was allowed some more time off in order to recover fully.
His absence has not particularly hurt Real Madrid. While they have looked a bit laboured going forward at times, the goals have come from several different sources and ultimately, they have won all of their games, which is what matters the most.
Now, one can only hope that Benzema is fit and back on the pitch as soon as possible.
