A lot of Real Madrid fans’ worst fears came true when Karim Benzema suffered an injury in their Champions League opener against Celtic away at Parkhead. Los Blancos do not have a proper replacement for the French superstar in their team and were expected to struggle in his absence.
Real Madrid deserve a lot of credit for how well they dealt without Benzema though, who has not kicked a ball since he got injured. That has not stopped Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who have won all their games this season till now, an incredible run of form.
And now, there is finally some good news regarding Benzema as well, as it looks like he could be back in action pretty soon.
As reported by Real Madrid’s official website, Benzema is finally back in training with the squad after recovering from his injuries and he seems to be keen to feature on Sunday against Osasuna as he told the club’s media:
"“I’m pleased to be back with the team. It’s been some time and I’ve had time to do a pre-season. I’m feeling very good, comfortable. I’m looking forward to the game on Sunday.”"
Benzema delivers huge boost to Real Madrid as he finally returns to training after his injury
Benzema returning to training is great news for Real Madrid without a shadow of a doubt, as they did not really have a number nine without him.
Instead, Ancelotti had to play Eden Hazard and Rodrygo in the false nine role, in order to fill the void left behind by the Frenchman. It is safe to say that Mariano Diaz is pretty much out of the first-team plans.
Now with Benzema back, they can finally get back to playing with a proper striker. But at the same time, Real Madrid have to be careful not to play him too much too early. It has been three weeks since the Frenchman last played competitive football and he should be eased back into things in order to reduce the risk of reinjury.
