Real Madrid have not made a lot of big signings in recent times but rumours have suggested that they could be preparing for big things in the summer of 2023. The club have already been linked with quite a few blockbuster names with one of them being Christopher Nkunku of RB Leipzig.

The Frenchman has been absolutely brilliant for the German club and it feels like only a matter of time before he gets a big move elsewhere. Real Madrid were rumoured to have him on the list of players that they were looking to sign but now, it appears that Chelsea have stolen a march on them.

Following the change in ownership, Chelsea have not been afraid to splash out and it is pretty clear that the new owners want the Blues to be competing in both domestic and European fronts. For that to happen, they will need to bring in new players as their squad seems a bit stagnant, especially going forward, and it looks like they are already laying down the foundation for a move for Nkunku.

As tweeted out Fabrizio Romano, Nkunku had a medical with Chelsea, confirmed as called by BILD. The Blues sent a long term contract bid to the Frenchman to prepare the deal for 2023. It’s not done yet, as the two clubs will speak about the fee.

Chelsea look set to hand Real Madrid a major blow in the race to sign Nkunku

It is believed that a €60 million release clause will become active in Nkunku’s contract next summer.

Thus, his time as an RB Leipzig player seems to be limited and he is expected to leave soon. Where that will be remains to be seen.

But at this point of time, Chelsea is starting to look like his most probable destination. Let’s see if Real Madrid can swoop in before anything official happens. It must said that for how good Nkunku has been in recent years, €60 million sounds like a very reasonable transfer fee in the current market.
