Christopher Nkunku is a player that Real Madrid have been linked with recently. The Frenchman has been exceptional in recent years and is expected to leave RB Leipzig for one of the biggest clubs in Europe sooner or later. And it should come as no surprise that teams other Los Blancos are also interested in signing him.

Chelsea seem to have stolen a march on the competition though, as they look to refresh their struggling frontline. And someone like Nkunku could be perfect in that regard. He has already proven himself in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League.

While Chelsea might be the frontrunners in the race to sign Nkunku, Real Madrid do not seem to have any intention of giving up though.

As reported by Fussball Transfers, Chelsea are in pole position for Nkunku but Liverpool and Real Madrid are far from giving up – even if they are behind the Blues.

Real Madrid are not giving up on Nkunku transfer race even though Chelsea have taken the lead

Someone like Nkunku could be a spectacular signing for Real Madrid. He seems to have everything that one would expect from a modern day forward and his recent goalscoring record speaks for itself.

Whether it will transfer to the Premier League or La Liga is a different matter altogether. We have seen the likes of Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski absolutely thrive after departing Germany. On the other hand, Timo Werner ended up flopping at Chelsea. Thus, there is no proven formula and it depends on player to player.

It is believed that there is a €60 million release clause that will become active in Nkunku’s contract from next summer and it is safe to say that that is a reasonable transfer fee for a player who has been in top form like the Frenchman.
