Real Madrid have a very good defence right now. Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy are world-class options on the full-back positions but the heart of their defence is even more impressive. In David Alaba, Eder Militao and Antonio Rudiger, they might very well have three of the best centre-backs in the world right now. And Nacho is a very good option to have as cover as well.

Even more impressively, Real Madrid managed to sign two of those centre-backs for nothing in Alaba and Rudiger.

Alaba’s deal with Bayern Munich ran out and he joined last summer. Similarly, Rudiger was also out of contract after establishing himself as one of the best defenders on the planet at Chelsea under the management of Thomas Tuchel.

Very smart business from Real Madrid without a shadow of a doubt and next summer they might have the chance to sign another incredible centre-back on a free transfer in the form of Milan Skriniar. But this time around, there is expected to be a lot of competition.

As reported by CalcioMercato, PSG have not given up hope on signing Skriniar although as highlighted by the French press, Chelsea and Real Madrid are also after the defender.

Skriniar has established himself as one of the best defenders in the world during his time at Inter Milan and even has a Serie A title to his name.

His current deal with the Italian giants runs out next summer though and he is yet to agree to a new deal. Thus he might move on as a free agent.

Now, Real Madrid do not really need another centre-back at the moment. But the opportunity to sign someone of the quality of Skriniar on a free transfer might be too good to pass up on.
