It is hard to describe the career that Gonzalo Higuain has had in football. He started out at River Plate before quickly earning a move to Real Madrid. In Spain, he would establish himself as a star but was never the main man for Los Blancos. Ultimately, the Argentine would end up departing Santiago Bernabeu for Napoli.

It is at Napoli that he would go on to enjoy his greatest successes and even sent some Serie A records tumbling. That would earn him a big move to Juventus.

Since then, he has represented the likes of Chelsea and AC Milan as well. Currently, he plays in the MLS for Inter Miami and after a difficult start to life in the United States, he has definitely come into his own in recent times.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 14 goals and provided 3 assists in 26 MLS appearances this season. And it looks like he is ready to hang up his boots while he is still at the top of his game.

Higuain has decided that he will soon be hanging up his boots for good. As reported by Marca, he said in a press conference:

"β€œThe day has come to say goodbye to soccer, a profession that has given me so much and I feel privileged to have experienced it with its good and not so good moments.”"

Thus, he will be retiring from the game at the end of the MLS season. And at 34 years of age, it is safe to say that Higuain has not hung around for too long. He is ready to say goodbye to football while he is still playing at a very good level and making a difference for his team.

Higuain deserves all the plaudits for the career that he has had, which has spanned clubs like Real Madrid, Chelsea, Juventus, AC Milan, Napoli, River Plate and Inter Miami.

At the same time though, one cannot overlook some of his bad moments as well, which unfortunately ended up defining his career more than his successes, namely his high profile misses in World Cup and Copa America finals.
