Thibaut Courtois is one of Real Madrid’s most important players right now. He proved that last season with an all-time great performance in the Champions League final to help Los Blancos to their 14th title in the competition. And he has continued to perform at a vey high level in this campaign as well.

Unfortunately, Courtois picked up an injury. It is believed to be a back problem and as a result, he could not feature in the game against Osasuna. Andriy Lunin took up the first-team gloves in his absence.

It might not have been a mere co-incidence that it also turned out to be the game in which Real Madrid’s winning streak came to an end as they could only manage a 1-1 draw. It must be pointed out that Luka Modric was also missing on the occasion.

It is unclear when Courtois will be back, which surely would have worried the fans. But there seems to be a positive update on his situation. As reported by Real Madrid’s official website, Carlo Ancelotti said about the Belgian goalkeeper:

"“Courtois is much better after the treatment yesterday. We’re not sure about the next game against Getafe. He might be ready for the return game against Shakhtar or the Clásico.”"

Real Madrid have been handed a massive Courtois injury boost

It goes without saying that Real Madrid fans will want to see Courtois back on the pitch as soon as possible.

At the same time though, they have to make sure that he fully recovers from this issue so that it does not end up becoming a long-term problem as a result of rushing him back into action. But we are pretty certain that Los Blancos will not be doing that.

For the time being, one would expect Lunin to hold on to the first-team gloves and he is more than good enough to do a job. But at the same time, Real Madrid need Courtois back before the El Clasico against Barcelona, who went top of the La Liga table following Los Blancos’ 1-1 draw vs Osasuna.
