Real Madrid have their fair share of injury problems at the moment, but hopefully, most of them will be solved by the time they take to the pitch against Barcelona in the first El Clasico of the season, set to be played at the Santiago Bernabeu.

This is setting up to be a tight title race for sure. Both Real Madrid and Barcelona have the same number of points at this point of time, but Xavi’s side sit at the top of the La Liga table due to having a better goal difference. They do have some major problems heading into El Clasico though.

As reported by FC Barcelona’s official website, Andreas Christensen has a sprained ligament in his left ankle. The defender will undergo more tests on Wednesday to find the exact extent of the injury.

And as reported by AS, depending on the degree of the sprain, Christensen could be off the pitch for up to three weeks and miss the El Clasico against Real Madrid.

Christensen arrived at Barcelona on a free transfer from Chelsea this summer, similar to Antonio Rudiger at Real Madrid. And he has managed to establish himself as a key player in Xavi’s team.

Thus, if Christensen does end up missing the upcoming El Clasico, then it would be a major blow for Barcelona, especially since Jules Kounde and Ronald Araujo are also set to miss out against Real Madrid as well.

That means that the only two real options that Barcelona could have on the day are Gerard Pique and Eric Garcia. It is safe to say that that is not what Xavi would have been hoping for ahead of arguably the biggest game of his managerial career till now, which could have major implications on the La Liga title race.
