Every time Erling Haaland takes to the pitch, Real Madrid fans wonder why the club did not push for him in the summer. Yes, they had Karim Benzema in their ranks already, who is destined to win the Ballon d’Or this season. But the Frenchman is 34 years of age and sooner or later, his performances are bound to slip. Time and tide wait for no man, not even the best footballers in the world.

On the other hand, Haaland is just 22 years of age and can be the best player on the planet for the next decade, if not more, if he can remain injury-free.

Nobody has dominated English football like he has since coming in. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Haaland has scored 19 goals and provided 3 assists in 12 appearances for Manchester City till now.

There have been rumours though that there is a €200 million release clause that will become active in the summer of 2024 if certain sporting achievements are met during his time in the blue side of Manchester. Of course, that had led to the Norwegian superstar being linked with a move to Real Madrid. But now, it looks like the talk of the release clause might not be accurate.

Real Madrid handed Haaland transfer blow already

As reported by The Guardian, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola said:

"“It’s not true.“He has no release clause for Real Madrid or any other team. It’s not true, what can I say? I have the feeling he is incredibly happy here and we will try to make him happy.“You cannot worry about the rumours, we have to worry about what we can control.”"

It is hard to imagine that Manchester City would accept any kind of transfer bid for Haaland if he continues to perform at this level, unless the Norwegian really tries to push for a move.

But then, why should he? He is scoring for fun at Manchester City and is almost guaranteed to compete for four trophies every season. Thus, with no release clause, it seems very difficult to see Haaland end up at Real Madrid anytime soon.
