Real Madrid might have been linked with the likes of Jude Bellingham and Youri Tielemans in recent times but in the eyes of many, Los Blancos already have the best midfield in all of European football at the moment.

The club have a couple of legends like Luka Modric and Toni Kroos in their ranks, who are not only playing top quality football but have an incredible amount of experience to dip into as well, with both having won five Champions League titles.

Beyond them, the club have a trio of brilliant young midfielders in Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga and Federico Valverde. They could potentially be the core of Real Madrid’s midfield for the next decade while Dani Ceballos is a great cover option to have as well.

One player who has particularly impressed in recent times is Valverde, who seems to have taken his game up a level this season. And his Uruguayan international teammate, Luis Suarez, recently compared him to one of the best ever in Steven Gerrard.

Valverde seemed to be quite happy to be compared with a legend like Gerrard. As reported by GOAL, he told Infobae:

"“It’s spectacular when you are compared to such a player, to a star, a world idol, not just a Liverpool one. It’s amazing.“I see characteristics of him, obviously, I’m not going to say no, but one always looks out for one self. I also want to leave my name and my mark in the world of football, not just at Madrid but in the national team.”"

Valverde is certainly on the right path to leaving his own mark in the world of football. He has been one of Real Madrid’s best players this season.

One thing that he has been able to add to his game is goals. Valverde has scored more goals already in this campaign than he did in the previous one.

At 24 years of age, he is still several years away from his prime and if the Uruguayan can continue to improve like this, he will be one of the best midfielders in the world soon. Can he leave behind a legacy as great as Gerrard? Time shall tell.
