A number of Chelsea players have moved to Real Madrid in recent years. It started with Thibaut Courtois, who has gone on to establish himself as one of the best goalkeepers on the planet with Los Blancos, and played a key role in their 14th Champions League title win last season. Eden Hazard is the record signing in the club’s history and they brought in Antonio Rudiger on a free transfer last summer.

While Rudiger is yet to establish himself as a starter, he has already started to make his presence felt in Spain and is certainly good enough to be an important member of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, competing with David Alaba and Eder Militao for a starting spot.

Rumours are doing the rounds on social media though that Real Madrid are interested in another Chelsea defender as well – Reece James.

James has been immense for Chelsea in recent years and was heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid earlier in the summer as well. But at the moment, a move to Santiago Bernabeu feels very unlikely.

Real Madrid rumoured to be considering move for Chelsea defender

As reported by Chelsea’s official website, James signed a six-year contract with the club, which will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2028.

Rumours have also suggested that that deal saw him become the highest paid defender in the history of Chelsea.

He has certainly earned that with his performances though and there is a case to be made for him to be the best right-back in the world right now. If he is not at the top, he is pretty close to that.

It is hard to believe that he is still just 22 years of age. James is one of the rare players to have come through the Chelsea youth system and established himself as a starter for the club. He is incredible going forward and very solid at the back.

Someone like him would be a magnificent signing for Real Madrid and the successor to Dani Carvajal. But at this point of time, especially after his long-term contract, it is hard to see it happening.
