On matchday 8, Real Madrid played Getafe away from home in a game that started quickly and then gathered momentum again after a few slow periods. The match was close, with spurts of power displays in which both teams successfully overpowered the other, but Real Madrid came out on top with three points.
Los Blancos opened the first half strongly, with Eder Militao scoring from a set piece. The following minutes of the first half saw Madrid battle for the ball with vigour as they retained overall control of the game despite failing to convert many chances.
The second half proved to be more physically demanding as the hosts’ players were continuously attempting to charge on Madrid players, particularly Vinicius Jr. Real Madrid allowed Getafe to maintain better control of the game in the second half as Los Blancos sat and waited for crucial passes.
With that said, here are the player ratings for the game.
GK – Andriy Lunin
After Thibaut Courtois’ injury, the replacement man in goal has finally been receiving some regular minutes, despite his mediocre performance. There’s nothing black or white about Lunin’s recent form; he’s been OK. Perhaps additional minutes will allow the bigger games to trickle in gradually.
Rating – 6.0
LB – David Alaba
The Austrian defender was used on the wing and looked decent. Alaba made practically no mistakes, but if he did, they were insignificant. It was just another Alaba-esque performance. Flawless and active.
Rating – 7.0
CB – Antonio Rudiger
Rudiger now may be described in three words: good, responsible, and steady. He was simply too excellent and reliable at the rear. His partnership with Eder Militao was adaptable and assertive. The German played a fantastic game.
Rating – 8.0
CB Eder Militao
The day’s only scorer. With a Ramos-like header in the first few minutes of the game, Eder Militao gave Real Madrid the victory. His pairing with Rudiger was extremely good, possibly even better than his partnership with Alaba. The defender was fantastic and reliable.
Rating – 8.5
RB – Dani Carvajal
Except for a few instances where he failed to track back, the back of the wing was reasonably stable under Carvajal’s guidance. Carvajal’s crossing game was strong as usual, and he had numerous decent chances to score.
Rating – 6.5
