Real Madrid have made a reputation for themselves of signing the best young talents around the world and turning them into top class players at Santiago Bernabeu. Just the current team has several examples like Vinicius Junior, Federico Valverde and Eder Militao, while the likes of Rodrygo, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga also seem to be on the same path to superstardom for Los Blancos.
On the other hand, Manchester United find themselves in completely the opposite situation. They have signed one superstar after the other, including Raphael Varane and Casemiro from Real Madrid, but none of it has led to anywhere of substance.
Yet the two find themselves in a race to sign one of Europe’s most exciting young talents in the form of Antonio Silva.
As reported by CalcioMercato, Real Madrid have put Silva, currently playing at Benfica, at the top of their wish list. On the other hand, as reported by the Mirror, Manchester United scouts watched him against Paris Saint-Germain last week as they continue to monitor his progress.
Real Madrid and Manchester United battle to sign Portuguese youngster
There is no question that Silva is a top talent and despite just being 18 years of age, he is already playing regular first-team football for a club like Benfica in a challenging position like centre-back. He has also represented Portugal at multiple youth levels.
Portugal has become a hot bed for talent in European football in recent years. And someone like Silva could be the next big thing to come out of the country.
Interestingly, Silva is believed to have a release clause of around £13 million in his current deal with Benfica and it is believed that the Portuguese club are already trying to negotiate fresh terms. Now, it remains to be seen if either Real Madrid or Manchester United are able to agree a deal for him.
