Real Madrid and Barcelona both managed to come out with narrow wins this weekend as they registered 1-0 wins over Getafe and Celta Vigo respectively, to maintain their positions on the La Liga table. Xavi’s side are top while Carlo Ancelotti’s men are second, although both have the same number of points heading into the first El Clasico of the season.

One man who will have a big role to play on the day is David Alaba. The Austrian has been an ever-present in Carlo Ancelotti’s side since he joined Real Madrid last summer as a free agent, after his contract with Bayern Munich ran out and he went on to play a huge role in the club’s 14th Champions League title last season.

Robert Lewandowski is someone that Alaba will know very well from his time at Bayern Munich, as both of them won a lot of silverware together for the Bavarian side. And it looks like the Austrian star has nothing but great things to say about his former teammate and current El Clasico rival.

As reported by Real Total, Alaba said regarding Lewandowski:

"“I’m not surprised by Lewy. I know him really well from my time in Munich. What he does here in Spain I was able to experience first-hand for years in Munich. He’s one of the best strikers in the world and he’s proven that time and time again over the past few years and he’s showing it again this season.”"

Real Madrid star has nothing but great things to say about Lewandowski

It is safe to say that one would have expected Alaba to praise Lewandowski, having been teammates with him for so long at Bayern Munich.

To be fair to Lewandowski, he has been absolutely superb since moving to Barcelona in the summer as well.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Lewandowski has scored 12 goals in 11 appearances for Barcelona till now.

The only player outdoing him this season is Erling Haaland, who has set the Premier League on fire since moving to Manchester City and is already being linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Thus, when Real Madrid meet Barcelona next weekend, Lewandowski could be the man to watch out for, especially since Karim Benzema has not made a great start to the campaign.
