Real Madrid are a club who are always on the lookout for the next big thing. In this respect, they have moved away from their old Galactico strategy and adapted to the ever-changing transfer market. The club deserve a lot of credit for winning five Champions League titles over the past decade, a period of time in which they have been outspent by even some mid-table Premier League clubs.

One of the brightest young talents in football right now is Florian Wirtz, who currently plays for Bayer Leverkusen.

He was playing some sensational football last season, but sadly, his campaign was cut short after he suffered an ACL injury. He has been out of action ever since then.

That does not seem to have reduced the amount of interest in his signature though. As reported by El Nacional, Real Madrid have been following Wirtz closely for some time despite his injury but Bild claims that Bayern Munich are the new suitors for the youngster and that it will make things very complicated for Florentino Perez and company.

Bayern Munich challenge Real Madrid in race to sign Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen

Wirtz was enjoying an incredible 2021/22 campaign before his serious injury and now, it remains to be seen when he will finally make his return to the pitch.

Wirtz is considered as a generational talent in Germany and it is not hard to see why, but at the same time, one cannot overlook the fact that his injury might end up having a serious impact on his career and any club that wants to sign him should wait and see him back in action before making any move.

That being said, it is remarkable that Wirtz is still just 19 years of age and if he looks like the same player upon his return then Real Madrid should not think twice before making their move. Of course, with Bayern Munich also believed to be in the running, it won’t be an easy transfer race to win.
