It would be safe to say that Eden Hazard has suffered a downfall since his move to Real Madrid from Chelsea. He had established himself as one of the best players in the world and a Premier League legend during his time at Stamford Bridge and Los Blancos shattered their transfer record to sign him.

Unfortunately, things have not gone Hazard’s way since then. His time at Real Madrid has been marked by one injury after another, and right now, he might very well be at the bottom of the pecking order in terms of wingers at the club.

For all his struggles at Real Madrid, Hazard has remained a major part of the Belgian national team though and is set to captain them at the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.

Hazard recently got into some trouble, when he was pictured at a nightclub, just days before Belgium’s international game against the Netherlands. And it is clear that Roberto Martinez was not pleased with the incident. As reported by 90min, the manager told RTBF:

"“Eden has an important role to play within the team, as a person but also as captain.“We trust our players, and he was allowed to spend time with his family, or with his friends.“There is a very clear story behind this, but I am not going to talk about it in public, it will be handled internally. I would not like to see this repeated, but there are reasons for this story.”"

Martinez does not want to see repeat of Real Madrid star’s actions

It is safe to say that Hazard is going through a rough time on the pitch. Before the start of this campaign, there were claims made that we would finally get to see the best version of him in Real Madrid colours.

That has not happened though. Other than his good performance against Celtic away at Parkhead, it is hard to think of another game where he has stood out for his display.

Of course, he has been a bit unlucky in that respect as well as he is not getting a lot of playing time, something that he will need in order to rediscover his rhythm. But then, on current form, it is impossible to drop the likes of Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo or Federico Valverde, in order to get Hazard some minutes in the tank.
