It has not been rare for Real Madrid to sign players from Chelsea in recent times. Several have made the move from Stamford Bridge to Santiago Bernabeu. While many have enjoyed a lot of success, some have not been able to show their true colours in the royal white jersey of Spain’s most successful team.
Thibaut Courtois, for example, has proven to be a grand success. He might very well be the best goalkeeper in the world right now and proved himself by putting in a Champions League-winning performance against Liverpool in the final last season.
Antonio Rudiger seems to be making his presence felt on Spanish soil as well, after he joined Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer. On the other hand, it would be safe to call Eden Hazard’s move a failure, as the Belgian has lost his way since Los Blancos decided to shatter their transfer record to sign him.
And recently, another Chelsea player has been linked with a move to Real Madrid in the form of English right-back, Reece James.
Real Madrid should try to sign Chelsea star
Right-back is a position that Real Madrid might need to take care of in the not too distant future. Dani Carvajal is a brilliant player but he is 30 years of age. On the other hand, his cover, Lucas Vazquez, is 31. Alvaro Odriozola does not seem to have a future at the club.
James is arguably the best right-back in the world already and if not, he is pretty close to the top of that list.
It is hard to find a player with his combination of playmaking ability, the instinct and quality to find the back of the net, and actually be very, very solid on the defensive side of things as well.
If there is one flaw in his game that one could think of, it is that he seems to be a bit injury prone but even then, these have been more niggles and no real long-term issues.
James did sign a long-term deal with Chelsea though and it might be very tough to lure him away from the club whose youth ranks he came through to establish himself as a first-team star.
