While Real Madrid might lack options in several areas, one position where they are stacked is centre-back. The club have three incredible options in the form of David Alaba, Eder Militao and Antonio Rudiger, with all three proving themselves as Champions League-winning defenders, while they also have a solid back up option in the form of Nacho Fernandez as well.
On the other hand, defence is a problem that Manchester United have been trying to solve for years and they have the likes of Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof in their ranks at the moment.
Yet, it has just not worked out for the Red Devils. While they are doing a decent job against average sides, we did see them concede six goals against Manchester City and on another day, the number could have easily hit double digits.
Milan Skriniar is a world-class centre-back, who looks set to become a free agent next summer, if Inter Milan are not able to get him to agree to a contract extension. While Real Madrid have been already linked with him, it looks like Manchester United would be in the running to sign the Slovakian international as well.
Manchester United could rival Real Madrid for Inter Milan superstar
As reported by Interlive, Manchester United could be tempted into making a January move for Skriniar, and offer a swap deal with Anthony Martial or Donny van de Beek, a proposal that is expected to be rejected by Inter Milan.
The more likely route that Skriniar could take out of Milan is as a free agent. Real Madrid have signed two of the best defenders in the world in Alaba and Rudiger on free transfers. Could they add a third name to that list?
On the other hand, not only are Real Madrid and Manchester United being linked with a move for Skriniar but PSG and Chelsea as well.
