Real Madrid: Eden Hazard suffers another massive blow
When Real Madrid broke their transfer record in 2019 to sign Eden Hazard from Chelsea, it was thought that he would replace Cristiano Ronaldo as the face of the club, after the Portuguese superstar had left Santiago Bernabeu for Juventus the previous summer.
There was enough evidence to suggest that Hazard was capable of being the star man for Real Madrid. In his seven years at Chelsea, he had established himself as one of the best players in the world and a Premier League legend.
Yet, his time at Real Madrid has been a complete nightmare till now. One injury after another has meant that he barely featured in his first three campaigns. And while he might have managed to remain fit this time around, his performances have left a lot to be desired. His display vs Shakhtar Donetsk was a case in point.
As reported by AS, Hazard’s participations between now and Qatar 2022 may become insignificant. Little more can be expected in the eight games that Real Madrid will play before the World Cup break.
Hazard handed another massive blow as his Real Madrid career refuses to take off
Ahead of the season, there were claims that we could finally see the best of Hazard in a Real Madrid jersey in this campaign.
Well, till now, it has been far from that. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored one goal and provided one assist in five appearances till now.
Both those goal contributions came in the first Champions League game of the season against Celtic, Hazard’s only good performance of the campaign till now.
Yes, he has not played enough to discover any sort of rhythm and find his old form, but then, one cannot expect Carlo Ancelotti to drop the likes of Vini Jr and Rodrygo on current form, in hopes that Hazard will improve.
