Real Madrid will have to keep a close eye on Robert Lewandowski when they take on Barcelona at the weekend at the Santiago Bernabeu, in the first El Clasico of this season. The Polish striker arrived at Camp Nou in the summer, from Bayern Munich, and he has been playing like he has been there for a decade already.

While Barcelona might have suffered a massive blow by drawing 3-3 vs Inter Milan and are on the verge of dropping down to the Europa League once again, one man who cannot be blamed is Lewandowski, who scored twice on the night and is the only reason that the Catalan giants have a glimmer of hope remaining of making the last 16.

On the other hand, Karim Benzema has not made the brightest start to this campaign and has had to deal with an injury already. But that does not take away from the fact that he is one of the best players on the planet right now, and even Lewandowski recognises that.

As tweeted out by Samuel Marsden, Lewandowski said about Benzema to Movistar Plus+:

"“Benzema is probably one of the favourites to win the Ballon d’Or, if they don’t cancel it, then probably he will win it, yes.”"

While Real Madrid will have to be careful of the threat that Lewandowski possesses in front of goal, Barcelona will have to keep an eye on Benzema themselves.

Yes, Benzema might not be at the top of his game at the moment but he is someone who is very capable of rising to the occasion. In fact, he is someone who thrives under pressure and performs better on the big stage.

Combine that with the fact that Barcelona’s defence is in a terrible condition right now, thanks to a series of injuries, and it might be a recipe for disaster for Xavi’s side. So do not be surprised if Benzema scores this weekend.
