Real Madrid will surely be looking to take advantage of Barcelona’s midweek blow in the Champions League, when the two sides take to the Santiago Bernabeu pitch this weekend in what will be the first El Clasico of the season. And it goes without saying that it could end up having major implications on the La Liga title race.
Both clubs are very close to each other at this point of time in terms of quality. They sit on the same number of points as well although it is Barcelona who are on top, as a result of having a better goal difference.
Both the Spanish giants ended up drawing their Champions League games on matchweek 4 but to different results. For Real Madrid, it meant sealing their place in the knockout phase while for Barcelona, it meant that if Inter Milan win another game or they lose themselves, they will drop down to the Europa League.
Thus, it is safe to say that Barcelona will be looking to put the disappointment behind them by beating Real Madrid. On the other hand, Los Blancos could be looking to capitalise on their vulnerability at the back, with a number of key players out, and take back the top spot.
Real Madrid superstars miss training before El Clasico
Real Madrid have a few big problems heading into the El Clasico as well, mainly to do with injuries to key players.
As reported by AS, Thibaut Courtois and Antonio Rudiger were not able to train with the rest of their team mates on Thursday due to their respective problems.
Both are struggling with respective injuries at the moment and are in a race against time to be fit for the El Clasico. If either or both of them miss the game, it would be a major blow for Real Madrid.
