Real Madrid fans will be hoping rumours about Toni Kroos considering retirement are wide of the mark after his brilliant performance in the El Clasico, as Los Blancos beat Barcelona by a 3-1 scoreline to go top of the table and open up a three-point lead.

The German midfielder certainly played his part on the day. He was instrumental in the first goal, as he released Vinicius Junior perfectly to go through on goal and while the Brazilian could not finish, Karim Benzema did put the ball in the back of the net from the rebound. Kroos’ overall play on the day was sublime as well.

Another player who impressed immensely on the day as well is Federico Valverde. The Uruguayan scored a stunning goal from the edge of the box to put Real Madrid 2-0 ahead and his performance was Man of the Match-worthy as well.

Kroos seems to have been very impressed with his teammate and declared him ‘top 3 in the world right now’ on Twitter.

Valverde has had an interesting Real Madrid career till now. He has shown glimpses of his incredible quality throughout but then, he has also had spells out on the sidelines behind bigger names.

This season though, it looks like he is finally nailing down his spot in the starting XI and becoming an undroppable for Carlo Ancelotti.

One of the biggest reasons behind that is the fact that he has added goals to his game and is now finding the back of the net on a consistent basis for Real Madrid. And if he can continue at this rate then it would be absolutely impossible for Ancelotti to drop him from the starting XI.

Another aspect of Valverde’s game that deserves recognition is the fact that not only is he playing at such a high level but doing so in multiple positions.

Is he top 3 in the world already? Probably not. But nothing can stop him from getting there if he continues to perform at this level.
