Real Madrid fans were left disappointed when Gavi lifted the Kopa Trophy. The club had Eduardo Camavinga in the running for the award as well, after the Frenchman arrived at Santiago Bernabeu last summer and played his part in their La Liga and Champions League triumphs. Other big names involved that also did not end up winning ahead of the Barcelona youngster are Jude Bellingham and Jamal Musiala.

At the end of the day, Gavi is a big talent as well and one of the most highly rated in the game today, but a lot of people did not agree with his selection as the winner of the Kopa Trophy.

One of them seems to be Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand, who seemed to have some high praise for Camavinga and what he did during Real Madrid’s Champions League winning campaign last season.

As reported by Manchester Evening News, replying to an Instagram post by the Secret Scout, Ferdinand stated:

"“Camavinga… Jude… Musiala….What Camavinga did in the knockout stages of the Champions League alone (making sure Real Madrid closed out the big games) puts him above Gavi last season. Gavi is a big talent but I can’t see him past these guys the last year.”"

Yes, it is true that Camavinga is not a regular starter for Real Madrid yet but it is very, very difficult to do that at 19 years of age and when he has players like Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Fede Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni ahead of him in the pecking order.

That does not mean that Camavinga did not contribute to the club’s Champions League win last season though.

On the contrary, he was a vital player for Carlo Ancelotti, who helped turn around those games against the best teams in Europe time after time.

There is no doubt that Camavinga is an exceptional talent and if he can continue to improve and develop his game, he will definitely go on to become a central part of this Real Madrid team in the future.
