Real Madrid find themselves in a brilliant spot right now. Their 3-1 win over Barcelona in the first El Clasico of the season sent them top of the La Liga table, which they now lead by 3 points. On the other hand, they have already qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League as well. And they have done it even while dealing with a number of injuries.
One of their key players injured right now is Thibaut Courtois, who has been crowned the best goalkeeper in the world and finished 7th in the Ballon d’Or rankings.
Thus it goes without saying that his absence could have been a major blow for Real Madrid but Andriy Lunin has stepped in and made sure that it has not had a negative impact on the team, and the youngster deserves a lot of credit for that.
He has not played a lot of football for Real Madrid and it is not hard to see why, but when he has, he has shown that he is someone that they can trust. What does the future hold for him at the club though?

As reported by AS, Lunin has a contract until June 2024, so he will have to have a conversation with Real Madrid to decide if it is extended, or if he prefers to leave.
There is believed to have been a similar talk between the two parties last summer as well but Lunin chose to continue on that occasion.
He has certainly proven himself to be a great back up goalkeeper at Real Madrid and if he does not want to leave in search of more playing time then the club should definitely look to hand him a new deal.
