There were a lot of question marks about the depth of Real Madrid’s squad coming into the season but till now, Carlo Ancelotti’s side have passed all tests in front of them with flying colours. It goes without saying that Los Blancos are a fantastic team, but they seem to have raised their level further in this campaign.

The club are yet to lose a game of football and it is mid-October. Not only that but they have also just drawn a couple till now. This is a better start than even last season, when they won a La Liga and Champions League double.

Thus, Ancelotti must be delighted with his players, not only those who are starting on a consistent basis, but also those who have made their mark with the limited chances that they have been handed.

One such player is Marco Asensio, who scored in the recent 3-0 win over Elche and has looked lively whenever he has been brought on. And it looks like there is still a chance that he could receive a contract extension at Real Madrid.

Real Madrid player could get unexpected contract extension offer

As reported by Real Madrid’s official website, Ancelotti said regarding Asensio’s contract situation at the club:

"“We haven’t discussed the contract. Marco is a member of the squad. It’s true that he hasn’t played much, but he’s proved that he can play. He’s been decisive in the few minutes I’ve given him and he’s going to be more involved going forward. We’ll talk about the contract.”"

It is clear that Asensio is not a starter for Real Madrid. The way that Rodrygo and Fede Valverde are playing, chances of that happening are slim to none at the moment.

But he does have a role in the team, and is being brought regularly off the bench while Eden Hazard seems to be the one who has been left out in the cold.

Thus, it looks like the Spaniard is in Ancelotti’s plans and could receive an unexpected contract extension offer. Now, it will be interesting to see if Asensio wants to stay at a club, where he would not be expected to start on a regular basis.
