Real Madrid have an excellent squad right now, even though the depth might be in question in some positions. One of their strongest areas is their central defence though. Los Blancos have three world-class centre-backs in the form of Eder Militao, David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger, and it is still unclear what their best combination there is. Nacho is the back up in the position and he is a great option to have as well.

Things never stay still at clubs like Real Madrid though and it appears that they are already trying to find the next great centre-back in world football. And one of the players who seems to have caught their attention is Antonio Silva of Benfica.

Benfica have been the home to some of the biggest talents in the game, who have gone on to achieve big things. And Silva seems to be the next big thing at the Portuguese club, having already established himself as the starting centre-back there at just 18 years of age.

As expected, that has caught the eyes of some of the biggest clubs in Europe, with Real Madrid believed to be one of them.

Real Madrid battle clubs like Liverpool, Barcelona, PSG, Manchester City and others in race for Portuguese defender

As reported by O Jogo (via Sport Witness), Benfica have already heard about ‘echoes’ from the transfer market regarding interest from Liverpool, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester City in Silva. PSG are also believed to be interested.

It goes without saying that Silva is a big talent, who has managed to become a regular starter at a position like centre-back, at one of the biggest clubs in Europe, at just 18 years of age.

Thus, it is not hard to see why so many European heavyweights are interested. It is not expected to be easy to sign Silva from Benfica though as it is believed that there is a €100 million release clause in his contract, which runs till the summer of 2027.
