Marco Asensio’s future at Real Madrid has taken a lot of twists and turns already, and now, it looks like there has been another one. The Spaniard was expected to leave the club in the summer transfer window itself, with clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool being linked with a move for him.

The transfer did not end up happening though and Asensio stayed on at Santiago Bernabeu, even though he was nowhere near being a starter and first-team chances were expected to be slim.

Naturally, there were doubts about whether the club would offer him a new deal or not. Now though, it looks like they have, after Asensio has played his way into the role of an impact substitute in Carlo Ancelotti’s side. Not just that, but a better one as well.

As reported by Cadena SER (via Tribuna), Real Madrid have made Asensio a new contract offer and they are proposing a three-year deal with a higher salary than he currently gets. The player’s intention is to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu but his agent is trying to get an even better deal from the club.

Real Madrid have offered an unexpected extension to Asensio

It goes without saying that Asensio is a very talented player and even though he might not be a starter, he makes things happen whenever he is brought on.

That has led to him getting increased minutes in recent weeks, while Eden Hazard has been left completely out in the cold and not featured for a while now.

If Real Madrid are able to keep Asensio, then they should definitely make it happen, because he is a great option to have around and can seamlessly slide into the starting XI in case of injuries or suspensions to those ahead of him in the pecking order. But Los Blancos should do it only on their terms.
