All good things must come to an end and so did Real Madrid’s unbeaten streak for the season, as they lost 3-2 at the hands of RB Leipzig. It goes without saying that that it was a big achievement to have not tasted defeat till now in this campaign but at the same time, there will be disappointment as well at seeing the run come to an end.

Real Madrid have already qualified for the last 16 of the competition, so the result did not have a huge impact on their European season. But the performance on the night did leave a lot to be desired.

Missing key players like Karim Benzema, Luka Modric and Federico Valverde, Real Madrid just did not seem upto the task on the night as goals from Josko Gvardiol, Christopher Nkunku and Timo Werner, who seems to enjoy playing against Los Blancos, sank the ship.

Thibaut Courtois might have been crowned the best goalkeeper on the planet but on this occasion, he saw his side concede three goals and he was clearly not happy with the performance. As reported by Mundo Deportivo, the Real Madrid star said:

"“Today we have not been at all good and I think we have lacked many things, a lot of intensity.“If someone is tired and can’t take it anymore, then they can’t take it anymore, but as a goalkeeper I’ve noticed that we’ve lost a lot of duels and that can’t be it. It can’t be that they score two goals from two corners and that’s something we need to improve on. The coach had already warned us and I was afraid of it, we weren’t in the match, we’ve lost duels and it’s due to a lack of intensity.”"

Courtois unhappy with Real Madrid’s performance in loss to RB Leipzig

Courtois is not one to mix his words and he did not seem happy with the performance of his side on the day.

It goes without saying that it was not up to par. While RB Leipzig are a very talented side, they have not been in good form this season.

Of course, one cannot overlook the absences of key players like Modric, Benzema and Valverde, but then that also raises the questions about the depth of this squad. We are still quite early in the campaign and they are struggling with so many niggling injuries already.

Hopefully, we will get to see a much improved display when Real Madrid take to the pitch against Girona at the weekend.
