Real Madrid are being linked with a number of players in recent times as it looks like the club could be active in the transfer market following the World Cup, something that has been historically true, as Los Blancos like to sign top performers from the biggest tournament in all of sport. The situation this time around is a bit different though.

The World Cup is being played in the winter due to it being held in Qatar. As a result, it will be much tougher to sign the top performers from this edition of the tournament straight afterwards, because clubs are expected to be reluctant to let them leave in the middle of the campaign.

One player who is expected to get his chance to shine is Bruno Guimaraes, who is part of the Brazilian team, and his performances since joining Newcastle United could earn him a starring role.

So impressive has been the Brazilian midfielder in recent times, that Real Madrid have been linked with him heavily. They are not the only ones though. As reported by GOAL, Chelsea are looking to strengthen their midfield and are considering making an approach for Guimaraes in the January transfer window.

Chelsea need to freshen up their midfield soon, with long-term stars N’Golo Kante and Jorginho potentially leaving soon, with their contracts running out in the summer.

It is believed that Real Madrid were interested in Guimaraes even before he made the switch to Newcastle United. So, it should not come as a surprise that they are still being linked with him, as he has proven himself at a top level.

It will not be easy to sign Guimaraes though, as Newcastle United are not believed to be keen to let him leave and could offer him improved terms on a new deal, in order to convince him to stay at St James’ Park.
