Real Madrid stumbled in the Champions League in midweek, losing 3-2 away in Germany at the hands of RB Leipzig, with goals from Josko Gvardiol, Christopher Nkunku and Timo Werner bringing an end to Los Blancos’ unbeaten start to the season. Fortunately for Carlo Ancelotti’s men, a lot was not riding on the result, as they have already qualified for the last 16 of the competition. A win over Celtic on the final matchday will guarantee them top seeding as well.

Things did not go as smoothly for the other Spanish clubs in the Champions League though. Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla have all been knocked out from the group stage itself.

That means that Real Madrid will be the only remaining Spanish club in Europe’s elite competition, when the group stages are over. And while that is not a good look for La Liga, it does hand a cash boost to Los Blancos.

As reported by Marca, at the moment, it is estimated that Real Madrid can take an extra €8.6 million as there are no more Spanish teams in the round of 16, but it could reach €11.7 million if they reach the final.

Real Madrid have been handed Champions League cash boost by Barcelona, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid

It is safe to say that Real Madrid are the best team from Spain, and by some distance, at this point of time.

Barcelona have failed to make it past the group stage for the second season running, and not only that, but they lost three and drew one of their combined four games against Bayern Munich and Inter Milan. They simply cannot compete with the elite clubs at the moment.

On the other hand, while Atletico did have a great run in Europe for so many years under the management of Diego Simeone, they have been slipping for quite some time now. Sevilla’s exit is the least surprising of the three.
