Karim Benzema’s injury struggles this season might be starting to become a bit of a worry for Real Madrid. The Frenchman had already recovered from one issue, suffered in the Champions League opener against Celtic, but has picked another problem in recent weeks. It is believed that he is struggling with muscular fatigue at the moment.
That has led to him being left out of the squad in the last two games, against Sevilla and RB Leipzig, respectively. The expectation was that he would recover in time to take on Girona this weekend.
That has not happened though. The Frenchman has been left out of the squad that will take on Girona this weekend. And as reported by SPORT, his presence in the Champions League is in doubt. The final group stage game is against Celtic.
Thus, it goes without saying that this is not ideal for Real Madrid. While Benzema’s issue might not be serious, Los Blancos do not have any real backup to him in the current squad, who can play as an out-and-out number nine.
Real Madrid suffer fresh Benzema injury blow
Real Madrid will need to get a result when they take on Girona this weekend. Barcelona went back to the top of the La Liga table by beating Valencia 1-0, thanks to an injury time winner from Robert Lewandowski. Now, it is up to Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who have a game in hand, to reclaim their position.
It goes without saying that Real Madrid would have been much more comfortable heading into the weekend, if they had Benzema in their squad.
Of course, it is not all bad news for Real Madrid heading into the game against Girona, as Luka Modric and Federico Valverde have returned to the squad after recovering from their respective issues, which is a double boost for Los Blancos.
